The story goes that there was a giantess who used to eat everyone that went over the pass. The villagers of Pentredwr asked St Collen to rid the district of the giantess.
He went up to the Pass and they started to fight. Collen chopped off the giantess’ right arm. She called out to the giant of the cave at Craig Arthur in the Eglwyseg Rocks to come to her aid but Collen cut off her other arm and killed her before she could summon him.
He washed the blood off his sword in the spring now known as Ffynnon Gollen.
