Glyndwr's New Statue

In the late 20th century Corwen decided to honour Owain Glyndwr by erecting a statue of him in the town square. Unfortunately the statue, which looked more like a model of a dwarf with legs made out of cast iron drain pipes, was long derided by the people of the town and visitors.

In September 2007, after a 4 year period in the making by sculptor Colin Spofforth, a new life size statue of Owain Glyndwr was unveiled in Corwen to replace the previous one. The new statue was commissioned by the Corwen Partnership at a cost of £125,000, and was felt by everyone to be a much more fitting tribute to Wales’ greatest historical leader.

The final resting place of the original statue remains a mystery.
