Edward Bendall Jardine was born Birkenhead SQ 1917, son of Arthur Jardine a sorting clerk and telegraphist of 5 Rapport Road, Seacombe, Cheshire, and Jeannie Jardine nee Bendall.

He married Barbara Toy in December quarter 1939 in Liverpool S, who gave her address in 1942 as Llantisilio. He was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Army Service Corps, Service number 187970, who had been mentioned in dispatches
