Robert Vincent Jones (“Bobby”) was born 1919, son of Robert W Jones, son of the proprietor of the Waverley Hotel Temperance Hotel, Regent Street, (and later became proprietor himself before 1939). He joined the navy about 1935, as Able Seaman , and had only been in the Service six months when he won the Bronze Medal for Life-Saving. Serving on board the HMS Courageous he was the first person from Llangollen to die in WWII.
