Robert Edward Jones was born March quarter 1918 in Llangollen, son of Edward Jones, a labourer, and Mary Jane Jones (nee Jones), of 4 Pengwern Square. In 1937 he joined the Navy as an Able Seaman. He spent all his service in the Destroyer Force and served from the outbreak of war in H.M.S. Escapade, an E class destroyer, before being transferred to H.M.S. Eaglet, a shore based training centre in Liverpool. But he met his death in tragic circumstances 1st May 1941. He was buried 7th May 1941 in St. John’s cemetery.
