Ivor Alcuin Jones was born in 1922, the son of William Alcuin Jones, who became vicar of Llangollen in 1928, (as a chaplin he had been awarded Military Cross and bar during WWI), and Gwladys Alcuin Jones. Ivor was educated at Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire, and Jesus College, Oxford where he received a B.A., he was a member of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and successfully completed his Air-training Course in America, becoming Flight Lieutenant (Pilot) No. 122956.  

"The tragic news of the death, through accident in Scotland on Thursday, August 31, of Flight Lieutenant Ivor Alcuin Jones, only son of the Rev Canon and Mrs. W. Alcuin Jones, The Vicarage, Llangollen, cast quite a gloom over the town and district. The funeral, which was private, took place on Tuesday, Sept. 5th. The body, in charge of R.A.F. Officer and personnel, was conveyed to Llangollen in the morning, and rested in the Parish Church, where the funeral Service was held in the afternoon.
