Idris Wynn Hughes was born December Quarter 1913 in 1 Tan’rallt cottage, Llangollen, youngest son of Edwin Hughes, a printer’s compositor, and Catherine Hughes (nee Edwards). He moved to Chester and married Mary Gertrude Powell.
