Horace Garner Evans was born in Llangollen in June Quarter 1909, son of Henry Evans, a saddler of 9 Berwyn Street and Margaret Jane Evans. Dr. Evans, who was reported missing following this historic naval action, had been in practice in Wellingborough for the past five years. He was educated at Llangollen Council and County Schools, he received his medical training at Liverpool University, where he graduated at the early age of 21. He subsequently filled posts at the Royal Infirmary, Liverpool, and the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital, and prior to taking up practice in Wellingborough, he occupied the position of resident medical officer at Walton Hospital, Liverpool.
