From The Royal Military College, Sandhurst he was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in April 1916: Promoted Lieutenant November 1917 and Captain October 1918 : Proceeded to Egypt in September 1916, and appointed A.D.C. to the General commanding the Cairo District, was transferred to the 24th battalion and served with them in Palestine from January 1918: left Palestine for France in the following May.

Died at Boulogne from influenza, following wounds received in action on 31st October previously.
