Arthur George Dickin was born in Abegele in September quarter 1873, son of John Dickin, (who was described as a collier in 1871, policeman in 1881 but a farmer in 1891), and Sarah Dickin (nee Davies). In 1891 George was living with his sister Julia and brother in law Daniel Sharman, but working on his father’s farm. March 1893 Arthur married Doreathea Pruett in Chester. In 1901 his parents family were living in Wynnstay Terrace, Vroncysyllte, but by 1911 had moved to 27 Hill Street Cefn, where Arthur’s sister Edith ran a grocer’s shop. Arthur joined the Royal Engineers, No 86313, becoming a corporal in 172nd Tunnelling Company. He died 21st May 1917, and was buried in grave JC 558, All Saints Cemetery, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
